Scrappy trips

I have been wanting to do a Scrappy Trips quilt a la Bonnie Hunter for quite some time. (pattern here) I’ve been working on taming my scraps, and I’ve had a colour combination brewing for a while. Today I finally got some scrap 2 1/2″ strips pulled. I have no idea how many strips I will need, but I’m not worried about running out, that’s for sure. I really like the first block, but I’m not so keen on the second. It seems a bit too ‘white’, if you will.

I will most likely just leave it, cause the thought of picking it out does not thrill me. I’m concerned it will stick out like a sore thumb, but I think I’ll just have to check my perfectionist tendencies at the door and let it be. In fact, that’s exactly what I’m going to do!!

i live on the beautiful Saskatchewan prairie with my sweet man, my two darling boys, a dog, 5 cats, three horses, and a zillion frogs. i started sewing when i was 10 and did garment sewing for many years before i discovered quilting. i have been obsessed with quilting since 1994. i am self taught, so i may not do things 'by the book', but i don't think the quilt police are too concerned about l'il ol' me. my quilts are made to be loved and i hope i outlive them all!

  1. Came here from the CT “Scrap Bags” group. I too want to do a “Trips” quilt. I had saved scrap strips to do Bonnie’s “Scrappy Bargello” until I realized that I didn’t know what size I wanted it to be and it would be easier to adjust the size of a “Trips” quilt since it’s made in blocks instead of columns. I look forward to starting it one day but will also look forward to following your progress until I do! Thanks for sharing!

  2. Looks great! I wouldn’t worry about the one block looking too white. If you do the same with several other blocks, then it will all look naturally scrappy! I have made several scrappy trip around the world of bonnie’s, even taught a class on it. Every quilt turned out beautiful!
